John J. Borer III – Head of Investment Banking, Senior Managing Director
Prior to joining The Benchmark Company in 2012, Mr. Borer was a Senior Managing Director, Head of Investment Banking and a member of the Board of Rodman & Renshaw, which he joined in 1991. From 1984 to 1991, Mr. Borer was a Senior Vice President and Investment Manager responsible for business development at Security Pacific Business Credit. From 1979 to 1984, he served as a Vice President and business development officer with Barclays American Business Credit. Mr. Borer served for four years on the SEC Advisory Committee on Small and Emerging Companies, during which time the JOBS Act was enacted. Mr. Borer currently serves on the Supervisory Board of Biofrontera, AG.
Mr. Borer received his B.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of California at Davis in 1978 and his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1984.
Michael S. Jacobs – Managing Director, Head of Equity Capital Markets
Prior to joining The Benchmark Company, Mr. Jacobs was Head of Equity Capital Markets at Axiom Capital Management from 2013 to September 2017 . During his tenure at Axiom, Mr. Jacobs dramatically expanded Axiom’s role as Lead Manager, Co-Manager and Selling Group Member. Mr. Jacobs has 30 years of experience as an investment banker, financial services industry executive and entrepreneur. Mr. Jacobs was Co-Founder and President of Capital Growth Financial, LLC which he transformed from a start-up to a “big firm in a little box” with 100 employees and $23 million in annual revenues. Mr. Jacobs capitalized on his structuring and financing skills as Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer of an on-line European financial content provider which achieved a market capitalization of $800 million (“GLBN-NMS”).
Mr. Jacobs holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business and a BBA degree from Emory University.
Brad Carlsson – Managing Director, Investment Banking
Mr. Carlsson is a Managing Director in Benchmark’s New York Investment Banking Division. Prior to joining Benchmark, Mr. Carlsson was Managing Director at Rodman & Renshaw (2005-2012). Mr. Carlsson has worked extensively with companies in the US and Internationally across a wide range of sectors. Mr. Carlsson has wide-ranging investment banking experience including with Deutsche Bank (Australia) and in boutique firms and has proficiency in underwritten transactions, private placements, M&A and project financing.
Mr. Carlsson holds a Bachelors degree with a focus on Finance and Economics from Victoria University (New Zealand) and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Jamil Aboumeri – Managing Director, Investment Banking
Mr. Aboumeri is a Managing Director with Benchmark’s Investment Banking team in New York. Prior to joining Benchmark, Mr. Aboumeri was a Director of Investment Banking at Rodman & Renshaw (2006-2012). Mr. Aboumeri has over 20 years of investment banking and financial services industry experience and has worked extensively with small and micro-cap companies in the US and internationally on corporate finance transactions, M&A advisory, valuations and fairness opinions. Prior to Rodman & Renshaw, Mr. Aboumeri was a Managing Director and Senior VP at Thomson Financial (now Thomson Reuters) where he spent 9 years in corporate advisory roles in New York and London.
Mr. Aboumeri earned an MBA and a Master of Science degree in Finance from the University of Rochester in New York, and a B.S. in Mathematics from the American University of Beirut.
Robert L. Brisotti– Managing Director, Investment Banking
Mr. Brisotti has over 25 years of experience in investment banking, specializing in public and private offerings for small cap companies, with a particular expertise in convertible debt and convertible preferred securities. Mr. Brisotti’s strong background in the chemical industry has formed the basis for his expertise in structuring financing for manufacturing, energy, and mining companies.
Mr. Brisotti received a B.S. in Chemistry from Lehigh University, an M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Rhode Island, and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University.
David Lachtman– Managing Director, Investment Banking
Mr. Lachtman is a Managing Director and leads The Benchmark Company’s West Coast investment banking division. Prior to joining Benchmark, Mr. Lachtman was Managing Director, Head of Equity Placements at Merriman Capital, Inc. (2010-2015). Mr. Lachtman has extensive experience as an entrepreneur, advisor and board member in addition to the capital markets. Mr. Lachtman spent the formative years of his career as Vice President in the Institutional Equity Sales Division at Dain Rauscher Wessels/RBC Capital Markets based in San Francisco. He began his career as an associate in the Institutional Equity Sales group with Van Kasper & Company.
Mr. Lachtman earned his B.A. in International Trade and Economic Relations from UC Berkeley.
David Cohen - Managing Director, Investment Banking
Mr. Cohen is a Managing Director of Investment Banking. Prior to joining Benchmark, Mr. Cohen, was the CEO and Director of Carolco Pictures, Inc. from 2016 to 2017, where he was responsible for strategically restructuring the company and overseeing day–to-day operations. Prior to joining Carolco Pictures, Inc., Mr. Cohen was Director of Investment Banking at Newbridge Securities Corporation and Director of Investment Banking at National Securities Corporation, where he led the underwriting efforts for a myriad of NASDAQ and NYSE listed public companies. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Cohen founded a publicly traded company and upon its sale, launched a private equity firm which specialized in debt and equity financing’s. Mr. Cohen’s has 22 years of expertise in capital markets as an investment banker, private equity investor and CEO. Mr. Cohen focuses on arranging financing’s for small-cap and lower -middle growth companies in a variety of industries.
Mr. Cohen holds a B.A. degree from Pace University in New York City.
Matthew L Pangborn – Managing Director Investment Banking
Prior to his current role advising casino, media/entertainment and consumer product businesses, Matt kept himself busy, co-founding a San Francisco based mobile sports development studio, while at the same time co-founding Bicycle Blue Book, the valuation authority and leading eCommerce marketplace for used bicycles. Matt has led interactive eﬀorts for brick and mortar casinos, including the role as Director of Corporate Development for CyberArts Licensing, ultimately successfully selling the Company in October of 2011 to Fertitta Entertainment (previous owners of the UFC). Matt kickstarted his career at a leading investment banking boutique in Colorado close to fifteen years ago and is proud to have successfully closed multiple transactions over the years with businesses and founders he was working with then. Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, four children and in his spare time surfing, snowboarding and the occasional downhill skate session.
Mr. Pangborn holds a B.S in International Finance from the University of South Carolina and both J.D. and LL.M degrees from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
